Approaching the closing date for survivors to register with the Royal Commission

We know many of you, and your whānau and friends, may be affected by the major weather events we’ve recently experienced across our country. We hope you are safe and well, and we send you our aroha.

You may have seen last month we announced the Royal Commission is coming to an end in late June. We want to let you know what this means for survivors.

As we near the end of the inquiry, we must set a date to close registrations.

Tuesday 28 February 2023 will be the last day survivors can register to have their accounts heard by the Royal Commission.

We sent a pānui to our survivors telling them of this news. Please share this survivor registration closing date and pānui with your networks.

Before the end of April every effort will be made to hear the accounts of all survivors who register with the Royal Commission.

During this closing period, until 30 June, the Royal Commission will continue to provide the following services to survivors:

                - contact centre support
                - wellbeing support
                - survivors can call on the toll-free phone 0800 222 727
                - text 8185
                - email:  [email protected]

Survivors will also receive regular pānui newsletters.

We have received more than 3,500 registrations from survivors

To date we have received more than 3,500 registrations from survivors, and many have come forward to share their experiences. The experiences shared are helping us to write our final report and recommendations.

On behalf of the Royal Commission, we want to thank you all for your mahi, support and advocacy for survivors and the inquiry.

Meanwhile, over the next four months, the Royal Commission will be focussed on preparing the St John of God/Marylands School case study report, and the findings and recommendations for its final report to the Governor General by 30 June 2023.

Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa.
