Covid-19 Principal's Update - 17 February 2022

Kia Ora

The health and wellbeing of our children, staff and community is a top priority. We now have several confirmed COVID-19 cases in our community.

These cases have so far been located in the hostels, firstly Denton, and now Harding. There has been 1 positive case in each dorm and swift action and your support have meant the other 9 cases have emerged while students are at home in isolation.

What we’re doing:

  • We have identified the close contacts of both cases, which were other students in the hostel. Students and staff during the day have remained safe through really good adherence to wearing masks and social distancing.
  • We’ll give the latest close contacts an update on what you need to do by today, if you hear nothing, please assume you are not considered a close contact by the Ministry of Health.
  • Denton Boarders: the original return to school was Tuesday 22nd, however this could now be Sunday 20th. We will confirm by the end of today.
  • We will remain open for the full school while we work through the list of contacts.

Only boarders in Denton and Harding have been asked to isolate.

Girl boarders and all-day students can continue to attend school.

What you need to do if you are contacted as a close contact:

  • get tested and self-isolate until you receive the result.

The new Phase Two settings:

  • Positive cases: isolate for 10 days and test on day 3 and 8.
  • Close contacts: Isolate for 7 days and test on day 5.

In all cases, please provide the Hostels with proof of negative test.

More than ever, we thank you for your support and patience. Schools, and most organisations, are largely their own contact tracing and advising, so it is a big task for us to manage. We will continue to put our community’s safety first while also delivering education for your children.

Students who are isolating can continue to learn online.
